We Belong Here: Pilar’s Story

Told with help from Tony and Lisa, Pilar’s parents

"People often say they wouldn't know Pilar has Down syndrome," explains Tony.

Occupational and speech therapy at St. David’s Center combined with full days in a preschool classroom was the perfect fit for Pilar who first came to St. David’s Center as a toddler.

Initial concerns that Pilar would be left out because of her disability have vanished.

She developed important skills in her therapies that could be applied at home and in the classroom, but watching the other children learn may have impacted her the most.

"She has confidence; she is engaged. I give a lot of the credit to St. David's Center. They have people that achieve outcomes."

Currently thriving in grade school, Pilar continues to come back to St. David's Center for therapy.

“We are grateful for the teachers, therapists and families at St. David’s Center that have helped Pilar reach her full potential.”
